“Two and a half men”

One of my favourites american serials is “Two and a half men”. It is hard to say briefly what the 10-season serial is about. It’s a story of two adult brothers and Jake- son of one of them. But let’s start from the beginning

We meet Alan after his divorce. His wife takes his house, his car and most of savings. Alan doesn’t have a place to live so he goes to his brother- Charlie, and asks to live with him for a few days, maybe weeks. Charlie is single. He’s charming, handsome, funny and has a lot of money. Women love him so he never has lonely nights. Charlie is some kind of compositor. He composes jingles. He drinks a lot and spends time in a big house on the beach in Malibu. He lives his life, he’s free like a bird and happy because of all of the women who make his time passes more pleasantly. But when Alan comes and asks for help, Charlie can’t refuse him. And that’s when the story really begins.

The brothers live together. Charlie considers Alan a loser and frankly speaking he’s right. Alan is broke, despite the fact that he’s a doctor. He makes stupid mistakes in a regular life and can’t cope with women. He spends his evenings lonely, because of lack of friends, while his wife has fun with another man. The whole Alan’s life is presented in a very funny way.

In “The two and a half men” an important place takes Jake- Alan’s son. After Alan’s and his wife’s divorce, ten-year-old Jake stays under his mother’s care, but he spends weekends with his father. Jake is not very bright and smart. He doesn’t understand a lot and always asks stupid questions.

The story is very funny and sharp. The viewer is often surprised about what the situations end. I would like to recommend you this serial if you want to spend time in a pleasant way.

How to keep a healthy diet?

Last week I red a book titled Czy wiesz, co jesz. Poradnik konsumenta, czyli na co zwracać uwagę robiąc codzienne zakupy of Katarzyna Bosacka, a journalist known from the programme “Wiem co jem”. In the book the autor describes different types of food, nutritional values and other important things for our health, when it comes to choose our nutrishment. But also she cautions us about the tricks of the producers of the food, the presence of preservatives, food colourings, etc. She gives advice of what to pay attention to in the shop, how not to be cheated and that to choose from among a lot of products. She tells interesting facts, and mentions about researches done about them.
I got to know many things from the book that I hadn’t realised. It is really useful for the people who want to keep a healthy diet.

Recipe for Panna Cotta

I like cooking. Although recently I don’t have much time, every week I try to find a while to cook something special. Lately I decided to make Panna Cotta. This is a very simple dessert. Let me show you that this is true.

We need:

300ml heavy cream
300ml milk
4tsp sugar
1tsp vanilla extract
2tsp powdered gelatine

What you have to do is:
  1. Pour milk into a bowl and stir with the gelatin powder.
  2. In a saucepan, stir together the heavy cream and sugar. Warm it up. Pour the gelatine and milk into the cream, and stir. Cook for one minute stirring constantly. Add vanilla and  pour into six individual dishes.
  3. Cool down in the fridge for at least 4 hours.
  4. Serve with strawberry sauce.
Enjoy your dessert :)

Superstitions

Last week I was preparing myself to give a lesson of Spanish to my student about superstitions. I would like to share with you some interesting superstitions from differents parts of the world that I found and that really surprised me.

First of all, in Spain you should not buy yellow clothing for a newborn baby. Furthermore, you shouldn’t give as a gift knife or scissors because it means the end of your relationship and friendship.

In China the number "eight" is very important. It symbolizes good fortune. That's why the Olympic Games in Beijing started 08.08.2008 at 8:08 o’clock.

According to the beliefs in Mexico, you shouldn’t sweep on Monday morning.

In Argentina, having a fish tank or a cactus in your house brings bad luck.

One funny superstition is known in Japan, where it is believed that if a pregnant woman is cleaning a toilet, she will have a beautiful baby.

In Panama if a knife falls down, someone will visit you.

Another interesting belief, this time from Italy, says that during a funeral, the coffin should be brought to the cementary a different way that the family goes back home, in order to prevent the return of the soul of the deceased.

In some parts of Russia it is still believed that no one, except for the parents and  the midwife, should see a newborn baby for 40 first days of his life. Because at that time the baby is waiting for the soul.

And now it’s time for a game: how many superstitions you can find in the picture?
