A long-awaited time

At last the spring has come! In spring everything seems to be better. The people have better mood, we have more energy to straggle with our everyday tasks,  everyone is polite and smiling, days are longer and the world is sort of more juicy. After this long winter now we may enjoy the weather and the sun. Let’s take advantage of this!

A box full of memories

 

This week, in our English class, we were talking about what a memory box is. In regard to this, I have started to wonder what would I put to my memory box, so that, in many years, I could open it and find inside all the most significant objects of my entire life. Would that be pictures, flowers, jevelery, coins, letters, postcards, clothes or something else? Is it at all possible to limit ourselves and place all our experiences, dreams, good and bad moments to that tiny piece of cardboard while every year brings us memories worth remembering?

A book worth reading

I would like to recommend you a great book called “Snow Flower and the Secret Fan”. It’s a novel which tells a story of two young chinese girls who are soulmates and both have to experience foot binding, a painful process of breaking the bones in order to decrease the feet that they are smaller and more atractive. Because of this practice the girls can’t move theirselves easily. In China the smaller feet you have, the more atractive you are. These two friends are different but both suffer in the same way. They feel like objects, like a property of men. In the book there is shown a social division. The role of a woman in the society boils down mainly to upbringing of the children and to fulfil a “function” of a wife.

 

This book made mi think of what we are ready to do to satisfy other people, how our society and general rules and trends force us to do. The China’s issue isn’t so distant from our reality, because in our “modern”, western culture we often have to be subordinated to conventions and established canons of beauty, which not always goes hand in hand with what we would like to.

March 13, 2013 is a special day for all Latin Americans. It was the day when the cardenals chose the 265^th Pope- the Argentinian Cardenal  Jorge Bergoglio, named now Pope Francis, the first Latin American pope in the history. He was elected on the second day of conclave, after the abdication of Benedict XVI.
